Nigel Pope Go back to People
Nigel Pope is a Series Producer in the BBC Natural History Unit and has been responsible for some of its most successful brands, including creating the format for Springwatch. Nigel was formerly Editor of children’s output in BBC Scotland, where he developed iconic game-show Raven, and the incredibly popular pre-school programme Balamory. Much of his prolific work is featured on the BBC Earth website, including the fascinating Big Cat Diary – series 5, 6, 7 and 8 between 2004 and 2007, and inbetween this the heart-warming Big Bear Diary in 2006. This was followed by the Orang-utan Diary – Series 1 and 2 in 2007, the Secret Life of Elephants in 2009 and most recently, Mountain Gorilla in 2010.
Of all the animals and events I've filmed, the one which I can never forget is baby-cheetah Toto who we followed for the best part of a month for Big Cat Diary. Although he sadly disappeared towards the end of the filming, he captivated the whole team with his adventures. He was really adored by the audience too, and you can still find tribute websites, songs and poems al over the web. Toto lives!
